River City Litho Installs RMGT 920PF-8 LED-UV Press, Expanding Offset Printing Capabilities in St. Louis

Your catalog drop is in three weeks. The brief calls for full color on both sides, a soft-touch coating on the cover, and a mail date that doesn’t move. Whether that timeline is realistic has everything to do with what’s running on the press floor. River City Litho has installed the RMGT 920PF-8, an eight-color LED-UV press that changes two things that have always made offset printing a scheduling negotiation: the requirement to run each side of a sheet separately, and the wait for ink to dry before a job can move to finishing. For commercial printing clients in St. Louis and across the region, those aren’t small improvements.

What Changes for Your Next Project

Most of what this press changes comes down to two things you’ve probably felt the friction of before: waiting for a second side to run, and waiting for the ink to dry before bindery can touch the job.

Both Sides in One Pass, No Second Setup

Take a catalog with a designed cover and back. On a conventional press, that’s two separate runs, with alignment checks in between and scheduling time for both sides. On the RMGT 920PF-8, the front and back print in a single pass through the machine. Eight color units mean 4-over-4 process work, extended color applications, or coatings on both sides without a second setup or a second slot on the press schedule. For catalogs, annual reports, and any piece that needs matched color front and back, you get a finished sheet in less time with less opportunity for variation to creep in between runs.

No Drying Time Means No Waiting

On a conventional offset press, after the ink goes down, you wait. The sheet needs time to dry before it can be handled, stacked, or moved into finishing. Depending on the job, that hold is overnight or longer. LED-UV curing eliminates it entirely. The ink cures the instant it hits the sheet, so sheets come off the press and go directly to the next stage. If you’ve ever watched a tight campaign window close because of a 24-hour production hold you couldn’t get around, or pushed a mail date because the ink needed more time, that’s the problem this press solves.

    Better Color on More Stocks

Beyond speed, LED-UV curing changes the quality of what comes off the press and what materials the press can run. Both have real implications for what you can ask for on your next project.

    Color That Matches the Proof

When conventional offset inks dry by absorbing into the sheet, some of the color goes with them. Saturation softens, fine detail loses a little crispness, and what you approved on press can look just different enough from the delivered piece to matter. LED-UV inks cure on the surface of the sheet, keeping color exactly where it was laid down. The result is vivid, high-contrast output where the blues stay vivid, the contrast holds, and the fine type stays sharp. For brand managers running consistent color across a healthcare system’s patient mailers or an insurance provider’s annual enrollment campaign, that accuracy shows up in the finished piece.

Your Project Doesn’t Have to Fit the Press

Your campaign shouldn’t have to be simplified around what the press can handle. The RMGT 920PF-8 runs sheets up to 25 x 36 inches across coated, uncoated, synthetic, and specialty stocks, including materials that standard sheetfed offset printing can’t run cleanly. If your project calls for a synthetic-stock card insert, a specialty-coated outer envelope, or a substrate that conventional equipment struggles with, this press handles it. You don’t have to find a second vendor for the complicated piece or downgrade the material to fit the equipment.

Consistent Results Across the Full Run

Speed and color quality matter. So does what happens on sheet 8,000 compared to sheet 1.

    The Same Sheet Every Time

One of the ways a long offset run can go quietly wrong is gradual color drift, where the first approved sheet and the last delivered piece don’t match closely enough because the press went in and out of calibration across the run. Fully automatic plate changing and inline blanket and roller cleaning on the RMGT 920PF-8 keep the press calibrated from first sheet to last without pulling it offline between jobs. For a corporate buyer managing brand standards across a 25,000-piece direct mail campaign, or an insurance company printing open enrollment materials, that consistency is what the vendor relationship depends on.

“Jobs that once required two passes and a day of drying now come off the press finished on both sides and ready for the bindery within minutes,” said Jeromy Fritz, President of Presort, Inc. “That is a real advantage for customers working against tight deadlines and mail dates.”

When the timeline is tight and the standards are high, you need a press operation that’s already solved for both. River City Litho’s team is ready to walk you through what the RMGT 920PF-8 can do for your next campaign.

From the Press to the Post Office, No Gaps

The RMGT 920PF-8 changes how long printing takes. What it changes after that is just as significant.

From Press to Bindery the Same Day

Before this press, a job that finished printing on Tuesday might not be ready for die cutting or saddle stitching until Wednesday morning, sometimes Thursday, depending on how long the ink needed to set. Now the same piece comes off the press cured and moves directly to River City Litho’s in-house bindery services, which include specialty die cutting, booklet finishing, and complete print finishing for everything from standard pieces to complex bound materials. The overnight hold between printing and finishing is gone. For a campaign with a Thursday drop date, that’s a recovered day that keeps the schedule intact.

One Team From Proof to Post Office

When printing wraps up, the job doesn’t need to be packaged and handed off to a mailing house across town. River City Litho operates as a division of Presort, Inc., which means printing, finishing, addressing, and delivery to the post office all happen under one roof through one account management team. You’re not coordinating between two vendors or absorbing transit time between facilities. Direct mail services are integrated into the same production workflow, which means a project that prints on Monday can be in the mail stream by end of week. If a broken handoff between print and mail has cost a campaign a day before, that’s the process this setup replaces.

A Cleaner Process for Teams That Track It

LED-UV curing uses substantially less energy than traditional UV or heat-set drying, and it generates no ozone and no heat during the curing stage. For healthcare organizations and insurance providers whose teams report on sustainability alongside marketing performance, that’s a real data point when evaluating print partners and a legitimate differentiator when the conversation comes up.

    The Press Is Running

The RMGT 920PF-8 is in full production at River City Litho’s St. Louis facility. Customers and prospective clients interested in a press demonstration, printed LED-UV samples, or a quote on an upcoming project can contact River City Litho at 800-754-SORT.

River City Litho’s team guides every offset printing job from quote to delivery, with a quality-first approach that checks every piece before it leaves the floor. As part of the Presort, Inc. family of companies, River City Litho connects commercial printing with mailing, fulfillment, and envelope solutions that most single-source vendors can’t match. If you’ve got a project coming up where the timeline is real, the color standards are tight, or the substrate is complicated, that’s exactly the kind of work this press was built for. Reach out and let’s talk about what it looks like for your program.
